There are those who go to law school – and so they wind up in a law firm, even if not as attorneys. Many then find that there isn’t anything philosophically glamorous about legal affairs. No heady debates over ethics and philosophy; just a matter of using the right rules. And because the rules can change, lawyers, like other professionals, will have to take online CPE courses to stay on top of them. This means, in effect, going to school for the rest of one’s life!
To be sure, life-long study (the “CPE” in “online CPE courses” stands for “continuing professional education”) is increasingly de rigueur in our modern times of fast-paced changes. Then there are all the other fields that now also require some form of continuing education due to all the developments made possible by modern life.
This kind of training, as the term “online CPE courses” would suggest, is something pursued on one’s own time at one’s own pace. There are almost always no particular requirement other than that of some form of on-going training in the first place. It’s not unheard-of to take two years to earn three credits, taking just the courses you want. In the case of a lawyer, for example, he or she may elect to study tax law or housing law for two credits and one credit, respectively.
For those that aspire to the professions, continuing education will be just another fact of life, thanks to the ever increasing level of complexity that new developments bring to bear on the field. Thankfully, it’s all available online now, making for unprecedented convenience!
